HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR BLONDE HAIR
1. GET THE RIGHT SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER - PREFERABLY PURPLE.
We genuinely believe that all good hair starts with the right shampoo and conditioner. We always recommend a sulfate free shampoo (for all hair) just to ensure that it won’t strip your natural hair oils - this can lead to dryness, lacklustre colour and not to mention it can strip your colour as well.
When it comes to how to look after blonde hair specifically, we would definitely start with a purple shampoo. When you get your hair dyed and lightened, an undertone comes through which is often the ‘raw blonde’ colour, and to counteract this, your stylist puts a toner in to eliminate these undertones - which often appear as yellow, yellow orange or even reddish. In between salon visits, you’ll find that your hair can turn brassy again - so this is where a purple shampoo comes in as they contain violet pigments that will counteract this yellow colour.
That being said, a purple shampoo shouldn’t replace your regular shampoo. There is such thing as too much purple - if you remove too much yellow your hair can appear a lot darker, which goes against dying your hair blonde. So if you wash your hair twice as week, only use the purple shampoo once. For the rest of the time, we’d recommend a gentle shampoo and conditioner duo like the RHE Hydrating Range that will nourish dry and damaged hair.

We absolutely love the EVO Fabuloso Platinum Blonde Colour Intensifying Conditioning Treatment - a colour boosting treatment that refreshes and tones your blonde hair. It also softens and conditions your hair as well as restores moisture balance.
2. HAIR TREATMENTS WILL SAVE YOUR HAIR
Another hot tip from us for all hair - but in this case, especially blonde hair - is a good hair treatment. If you’re a natural blonde, you might find that your hair is a little finer than other hair types and can appear dull if you don’t look after it. Similar problems - to an even bigger extent - can apply to hair that has been chemically lightened! So it’s important to pick hair treatments that have active ingredients to help deep condition your hair and repair it from within.
We love RHE Blonde Treatment which has colour enhancers to refresh and repair those nasty yellow tones. All you need to do is apply some to freshly washed hair, leave for a minute then rinse.

3. FINISH OFF COLD
One step you can add to this routine is making sure to finish off with a cold rinse each time you wash your hair. This will help keep your hair lustrous and shiny.
4. BE GENTLE TO YOUR BLONDE
Be gentle when drying your hair in a towel. Press and squeeze instead of rubbing your hair roughly in the towel. Your hair is more fragile when wet and you can stretch the cuticle causing damage and split ends. Do not brush blonde hair when wet, wait until your hair is completely dry to brush or get out any knots to avoid adding stress to your strands!
5. LEAVE IN TREATMENT
Leave in treatments are essential to having healthy blonde hair! We love Kevin Murphy’s Staying Alive for its ability to fight frizz and deliver smoothness as well as help to seal the cuticle while adding nourishment and strength! Leave in treatments are the number one product to reduce split ends in colour treated hair! Best applied in damp hair.

6. HEAT PROTECTION WILL KEEP YOU BLONDE
So those undertones we talked about earlier - that nasty yellow colour that every blonde dreads can be caused by heat styling and sun damage. Two inevitable things we can’t avoid in life so we’d highly recommend a good heat protectant in our guide on how to look after blonde hair.
A good heat protecting hair product should be able to protect your hair from high heat damage as well as harmful UVA and UVB rays - which can cause dry and brittle strands and discolouration. For this, we love and highly recommend Kevin Murphy’s Heated Defense foam! Heated Defense reduces damage while conditioning and smoothing creating a protective barrier with essential moisturising agents.

7. BE CAREFUL WITH OILS
Oils are said to be one of the best ways to nourish your hair—this might be partially true but not when it comes to blonde hair. Oils do have a tendency to make your hair look weighed down and greasy, when not used in the right proportion. You have to be careful with oils that have a yellow tint as it can catch on to your hair and stain your hair easily, especially if you have white or platinum blonde hair.
Oils are good for you, however, it all comes down to the formulation. For blondes any oil that is not water-soluble should be avoided. The reason? Blonde hair usually has a finer texture and if you are unable to wash it out completely, that oil can weigh down volume and make hair look greasy.
8. DRY SHAMPOO
Our long time BFF dry shampoo!
Washing your hair less frequently is good whether you’re a blonde, brunette, or redhead. This habit makes sure you’re not stripping your hair of its natural oils that help keep it nourished. The trick to getting the most out of your dry shampoo is applying it to your scalp the day before you think that you will need it! This allows the dry shampoo to soak up the excess oils as they naturally generate. Successfully skip greasy third-day hair!

10. REGULAR TRIMS
Although it seems counterintuitive, trimming your hair while growing it out will actually encourage hair growth by getting rid of any damaged, broken, or split ends. While you don't need to get a trim every six to eight weeks, you should head to the salon about once every three months at least.
